According to feedbacks of speed dating, we designed our final outcome. In order to better bring users into the future world, we designed the exhibition place and the future products.

  • Exhibition place

In order to let users immerse in it, we decided to restore the scene to the appearance of a museum that people generally know, because on our perspective, Building the future in a familiar scene can better empathize with users. To be more precise, the soil museum was presented in two different place. The exhibition part in the D210, we closed the light in this room and used spotlight to light the artifacts. Besides, we also played soft music as background music to create a futuristic atmosphere.( the music like the background music of Interstellar )

Additionally, we also invited a user to do the user testing. And we found that if we put exhibition part and museum gift shop together, the user cannot interact with product easily. Thus, we decided to divide them into two different place in the final presentation.

  • Artifacts

Firstly, we did quick brainstorming online and deiced how many items and what kind of them. And then we selected some interactive and resonating objects.

We designed some artifacts which may appear in the future museum, such as the diagram of the soil history, the newspaper about soil disappear forever and soil 3D models showing on iPad. And especially, I designed monopoly game of the soil bank with Zhaolu. We used this way to show the soil bank how to run. Because we think that it is more interesting to present the soil bank in the form of a game than to display its rules, and especially, it also can enhance user’s engagement. In addition, winners are often those who choose cultivating plants without soil, and they cultivate more and better plants with less principal. This because with the development of technology, the nutrition will become more and more better and cheaper, more and more people may ignore to protect our soil so that soil will disappear on the Earth forever.

My thoughts

This is my first time to try to combine speculative design and user experience design together. As a designer, we need to be more proactive and creative, and I think the combined way is a good method. We not only can use it to design for future, but we also can stand in different angles to think the current problems and it will cause what.

Finally, I really enjoy this project with my group numbers, we collaborated to think and decide every ideas. Besides, we discussed together when we meet problems. It is an efficient and pleasant cooperation.
